2017 District Committees

Two important groups that assist in planning the district's future - the Business Advisory Council and the Facilitaties Task Force - are seeking new members.  The next Business Advisory Council meeting is on Wednesday, January 18th at 7:00 PM and the Facilities Task Force meeting is  Wednesday, January 25th at 7:00 PM.  Both meetings will be held in the bus garage conference room.  If you are interested in joining one of these committees please contact Mr. Welker.

Out in the Community - Senior Citizen Lunch

 The Pemberville Student Council served a holiday lunch to  the Senior Citizens at Bethlehem Church.

 

NHS Sponsors Food Drive

Students in the National Honor Society were just one of many student groups who made some charitable donations to local organizations this holiday season. Recently, the group collected and sorted items for the food drive and delivered them to the church in Pemberville in support of the local food bank and Angel Tree.

Eastwood Twitter Spotiights a Positive School Culture #EAGLEWAYDECEMBER

In the month of December we are highlighting some of the great work being done by our students and ways they are modeling the Eagle Way. Enhancing our school culture is a critical element in our efforts to improve overall student performance.  Developing strong independent adults who can manage the vast challenges of the 21st Century is our mission. So this month we are tweeting about culture and the Eagle Way - sharing how our kids are going the extra mile and giving their best in the classroom.  All tweets are using the hashtag #EagleWayDecember so please tune in to learn about the amazing things our students and teachers are doing!

Johnny Appleseed

Pemberville 3rd and 4th graders performed the musical, Johnny Appleseed. The title role was played by 4th Grader Eli Smith.  Such a fantastic performance by all - we have some rising stars!  

 

Choir Concerts Postponed - New Date is Sunday, Dec. 18

Middle School Choir will perform at 2:30pm and the High School Choir at 4:30pm.  Both will be in the EHS auditorium.

Help Needed! Ticket Sellers and Concession Stand for Basketball Season

The athletic department could use some help with selling tickets for home games and in our concession stand for Boys and Girls Basketball. If you are interested in helping to sell tickets please contact Assistant Athletic Director Sharon Dudley at sdudley@eastwoodschools.org. The Eagle's Eye has a New Adviser, Staff, and Look

The Eagle's Eye staff has added an online edition which allows us to get news out faster and work on it as we go. We will continue to add to the pages each month and aim to mail out a quarterly hard copy edition as well. The online edition of the Eagle's Eye can be accessed here on the district website by clicking on the link located in the left sidebar of the district home page.

Eastwood Sports Teams Committed to Community Service

Eastwood student-athletes are committed to giving back to the community to show their gratitude for all of the support the community gives them throughout the year.  

The boys soccer team helped Pemberville United Methodist Church to prepare for a holiday sale.

The girls golf team helped out at the Light the Night cancer walk.

The cheerleaders went to Otterbein Portage Valley to visit patients and help put Halloween candy into bags so the patients could pass it out for trick-or-treating. 

The Football team helped set up and tear down for the Luckey Fall Fest and they help coachthe 5th and 6th grade Flag Football. Team.

 

7th Grade Students Attend Toledo Symphony Orchestra's Young Peoples Concert

On Thursday, November 3, seven Eastwood Middle School 7th grade band members traveled with Mr. Myers to the Toledo Symphony Orchestra's Young Peoples Concert at the Toledo Museum of Art Perisyle. The theme "Make Your Voice Count" was centered around the November election and American composers. Preceding the trip, the students completed listening and written activities to prepare for the concert. Students in attendance voted several times for musical options that were then performed by the TSO. Students earned a place on the trip by having the highest playing test scores in 7th grade band. Students who attended: Zoey Rollo, Kalee Moore, Sydney Ameling, Alexander Ramsey, Logan Farnsworth, Zach Buehler and Kaitlyn Cully.

Undefeated Champs! Go Lady Eagles!

Eastwood Art Club won 1st Place @ BSAF Club Rotary Annual Chalk Walk 2016

CONGRATULATIONS, to Eastwood HS Art Club!  They won 1st place @ the BSAF Rotary club's annual 2016 Chalk Walk at the Black Swamp Arts Festival this past weekend!  They were awarded $500 for Eastwood's Art Dept. This is the second time Eastwood has won this arts competition.  Students who participated this year were; Hannah Beaudoin, 9th; Moria Cunningham, 10th; Aaron Fleming,11th; Reegan Harvey, 9th; Sara Jay, 10th; Peyton Johnson,9th; Katelyn Meyer,11th; Hannah Schnitker,12th.

Construction Site Tours During FFA Barbecue on Oct. 7th

We invite all community members to take a tour of the new building during the FFA Chicken BBQ on October 7th.  Mr. Wank, Mr. Lingenfelder and Mr. Welker will lead tours every 10-15 minutes from 5:00-6:30.  

FFA Chicken BBQ is October 7th

The FFA Chicken Barbecue is scheduled for Friday, October 7th from 4:30pm - 7:00pm in the Middle School Cafeteria.To purchase tickets, please see an FFA member or Mr. Swartz.  Adult tickets are $9.00 and Children/Senior Citizens tickets are $6.00. Presale tickets will be sold through Wednesday, September 28th. There will be a limited amount of walk up sales on the 7th, so if you would like to be guaranteed a meal, please purchase a ticket before the week of the barbecue. 

Tri-M Chapter Induction Ceremony

Eastwood High School Tri-M Chapter #5458 held its Induction Ceremony Sunday, September 25 at the Pemberville Opera House. The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a program of the National Association for Music Education. It is an international music honor society for secondary students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership in their school and community.  Congratulations to these talended musicians!

Spray foam insulation has been applied as we get ready for some exterior brick.  Steel beams and roof trusses are ready over the office and getting ready for the roof membrane in the K-1 wing.

Do You Know How to Keep Your Child Safe on the Internet? Special Event @ EHS September 12th

On September 12th, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium, the Commander of the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will present "Is it Worth the Risk?”,  an interactive presentation to educate parents, teachers and community members about the potential dangers associated with online activity.  
With new electronic devices, social networking sites, online games, and mobile apps being introduced on a seemingly daily basis, children, more than ever, are vulnerable to being victimized by online predators who have unrestricted access to them 24/7.  Click here for more information & the event flyer.

 
 
Financial Aid Meeting for College Bound Seniors

Financial Aid Night is for college bound seniors and their parents/guardians who are seeking guidance in filling out the FAFSA, information about scholarships and understanding the cost of college. Eastwood is hosting our annual Financial Aid Night on Thursday, September 8th in the high school auditorium from 7:00-8:00pm. Eric Bucks from BGSU’s financial aid office will be our guest speaker for this event.

Books-A-Million Book Drive Benefits Eastwood Elementary Schools

Books-a-Million at Levis Commons is hosting a book drive to benefit Eastwood Elementary Schools. A display of requested books will be located behind the counter, or customers may select a book from the shelves to donate. The book drive begins Sunday, July 31st and ends on Saturday, August 27th. Please consider purchasing a book to donate from our wish list or choosing one of your favorites.  We appreciate your support!

This memorandum informs our community that asbestos management plans for our district schools were developed following EPA regulations.  These plans are regularly updated and are available for you to review.  Click here to read the notice.

Annual Eastwood High School Alumni Band

The 12th Annual Eastwood High School Alumni Band will be held Friday, August 26th when the Eagles host Start High School. Social time will begin in the HS gym at 5:15 p.m., followed by rehearsal at 6:00 p.m.. Pregame begins at 6:45 p.m., with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.  Additional information and registration can be found at band.eastwoodschools.org/forms.

Student Laptop Distribution Meeting - All 8th Graders and New High School Students

Before receiving district-provided laptops, students and their parents/guardians must attend one of the laptop distribution meetings and pay the $25 insurance assessment.  Dates for these meetings are: Tuesday, August 23rd at 9:00 and Wednesday, August 24th at 5:00 in the Middle School cafeteria (select one to attend).  Click here to view the Laptop Policy Handbook and access the Laptop Agreement Signature Page (this agreement, on the last page of the Handbook, must be signed by parents and students and turned in to Eastwood before students receive their laptop).  

 

Wood County Back to School Fair August 10

 Local students can go back to school with free school supplies and access to new resources thanks to the Bowling Green Salvation Army and United Way in Wood County. The nonprofits are sponsoring the Wood County Back to School Fair from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, at the Woodland Mall, 1234 North Main St. in Bowling Green. Families interested in receiving school supplies can apply from now until August 5 at the Salvation Army, 1045 N. Main St. in Bowling Green. Photo identification, birth certificates, and proof of income and address are required.

New Building Construction News

The K-1 entry is pictured below, along with preparing to pour the floors for the K rooms.  The project is moving along nicely!

  

Eastwood Scramble Golf Outing

The Scramble will be at Tanglewood on Saturday, July 30.  Click here for the event flyer.  Proceeds will help support Ed Jordan's recovery from major surgery.  Ed has worked at Eastwood for over 25 years.  He is a 1983 graduate of Eastwood and Penta.

EHS Football Team Lends a Helping Hand

Below you will see pictures of our Football Team helping out High School Secretary Jody Eaton by putting away all of these boxes of paper.  Thank you to these young men and the coaches for their help -  a job that would have taken Mrs. Eaton and others hours to move, and they got it done in 20 minutes!

   

 

EHS Fall Sports Info

Fall Sport Preseason Meeting is on Wednesday, July 27th at 7pm in high school auditorium. Fall Sports practices begin August 1st.  Fall Sports Picture Day is August 16 - information will be sent home soon regarding scheduling and purchasing of pictures.

Girls Soccer Youth Camp

Camp runs from July 27th - July 29th from 6-8 PM.  Cost is $45.  Click here for the registration form.

New dates!  Camp is for Grades 1-6, July 26-29.  Click here for the revised registration form.

Cross Country Team Fundraisers
The Cross Country team will be selling items as part of this year's Pemberville community garage sale. Their sale will be held at 310 W. Front Street from 9:00-5:00.
 
The team is also sponsoring a clothing and fabric drive for the Easter Seals. There will be either a red or white 16' Easter Seals truck parked somewhere in Pemberville from Friday through Monday. Everyone (especially those having garage sale clean up on Saturday evening!) is encouraged to donate bags of clothing, blankets, comforters, old curtains, table cloths and leftover fabric.
Sugar Ridge Road - Temporary Closure

Sugar Ridge Road will be closed from Pemberville Road to Luckey Road from July 5th to July 15th.  Local traffic will be maintained, but there will be closures due to sewer work being done for the forced main to Pemberville.

New Bleachers

A fantastic upgrade to the Middle School gym.  A lot of work going on this week to replace the bleachers.

Eastwood Youth Soccer Registration

Online registration for the Fall 2016 Season runs June 1-15.  Registration is open to children who are between the ages of 3 and 13 by July 31, 2016.  Fall season games will run from August 29th through October 16th with tournaments to follow for U-8 and above.  Register at eastwoodsoccer.org – click on Registration to begin the process.  All registrations must be completed online before the deadline of 11:59 p.m. on June 15th.  For questions, contact us by email at eastwoodyouthsoccer@gmail.com.

Eastwood Graduate's Work in Guatamala is Featured in UToledo News

Eastwood grad Jessica Schulte, now a graduate student in public health at the University of Toledo, traveled to a remote village in Guatamala doing research to earn her global health certificate.  She spent a week in a medically underserved community and her story is amazing.  Jessica's experience and research work has been featured in this video issue of the UToledo Closeup prograam.

April Prevention Education Newsletter

Early Release May 27th

 We will have an early release Friday, May 27, the last day of the 2015-16 school year.  The Middle School and High School will dismiss at 1:15pm and the elementary buildings at 2:30pm.

Youth Basketball Camp

The Eastwood Boys Basketball Program is hosting a Youth Basketball Camp and a Middle School basketball camp this summer.  Youth Camp dates are Monday, June 6 - Thursday, June 9 for upcoming grades 1-6.  Middle School camp dates are Monday, June 13 - Wednesday, June 15 for upcoming grades 7-8.  Please see the flyers below for more details.

Eastwood High School Senior Art Show 2016

Eastwood Local Schools Arts & Technology 2016

The Eastwood Local Schools' District Arts & Technology Show will be held in the Eastwood HS Gymnasium on May 12th (5:00-9:00 PM) - opening night/reception, May 13th (school hours - 5:00 PM), and May 15th (1:30-6:00 PM). Please, stop in and see all of the wonderful projects created by students from the elementary, middle, and high school levels. 

 

 

 

 

 

Eastwood Legacy Wall Project Committee

In the new elementary school we want have a wall dedicated to the legacy of education in the Eastwood School District. The wall will include a timeline that stretches back to the early 1800s. The goal is to find artifacts and pictures of schools that we can use to tell a visual story on a timeline about education in our areas.  This will be a true learning wall that will help our students appreciate that they are part of a legacy that is nearly 200 years old.

We will be holding a meeting for anyone that is interested in serving on this committee as well as anyone who may have pictures or information that will help create this wall on Wednesday May 11th at 7:00 PM at the Pemberville Public Library in their Community Room. 

Eastwood Track Fundraiser

The Eastwood Track program will be hosting a Mattress Sale on Saturday May 7th in the HS Gym from 10:00-4:00. 

Ice Skating Party

Pemberville Student Council sponsored its annual ice skating party at the BGSU ice arena on Thursday, April 7th. Pemberville students, staff, parents and alumni siblings were invited. The ice was crowded with “Eastwood Eagles." Even Flappy the Eagle, our school mascot, was in attendance.

The Music Man, an All-American musical classic, opens Friday, March 18th and runs through Sunday, March 20th on the Eastwood High School Stage.  Tickets on sale now.  Reserved seating is $10.00 each.  Call the Eastwood High School office to order tickets.

College Credit Plus Mandatory Information Meeting March 7th

The College Credit Plus (CCP) program permits students in grades 7-12 to earn both college and high school graduation credit through the successful completion of college courses.  Since there are several criteria that must be met, students and parents interested in participating in CCP must attend a mandatory meeting on Monday, March 7th at 7pm in the HS Gymnasium.  Click here for the flyer.

 

Luckey 3rd Grade Open for Business

The Luckey Elementary 3rd Grade Social Studies puppet sale was an entrepreneurial success.  All of their learning and hard work paid off...literally!  The third graders were divided into companies to design and create puppets to "sell" to the second graders.

Jump Over Cancer Fundraiser - Eastwood & Otsego Cheerleaders

Eastwood and Otsego High School and Middle School cheerleaders are coming together to battle cancer. This 7th annual “Jump Over Cancer” will raise money to for the American Cancer Society. At halftime of the Otego at Eastwood varsity boys basketball game on February 19th, the cheerleaders will be “jumping over cancer” by seeing how may cheerleading jumps they can do in one minute.  They are asking for pledges.  The cheerleaders are also holding a fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings in Bowling Green on Monday, February 15th from 5:00pm-9:00pm.  When you present  this flyer, 15% of your check will be donated to ACS.  Please help us in the fight against cancer!  See any cheerleader to get involved. Thank you! 

Band Fundraiser February 9 at Bob Evans

The Eastwood Band will host a fundraiser on Tuesday, February 9 at the Bowling Green Bob Evans. Dine in or carry out between 7am and 9pm and present this flyer. Hard copies can be found in the HS and MS offices, as well as from any band member. Thanks for your support!

Congratulations to the 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team

For the second consecutive year, the 8th grade girls have won the NBC Championship. They prevailed over Genoa, 33-15, to put an exclamation point on their season. Congratulations on a job well done!

District Report Card Data

There is a 2 phase release to the Report Card information from the Ohio Department of Education this year. In the first release there was graduation data, K-3 literacy, and Prepared for Success.  Check out initial results in Mr. Welker's January 22 weekly email (click the Superintendent Weekly Email link on the left and select the January 22 community email at the bottom of the page).
