Superintendent's Message

Dear Community Members:

Just a couple of quick notes and reminders.

It is hard to put into words how much I appreciate our teachers and staff in general. Now that we have kids back in classrooms every day, it is easy to forget just how challenging it was to educate students over the last 13 months. I am proud of the way our staff accepted the challenge of teaching in a way that had never been attempted. Attending or completing virtual lessons or meetings is now a common occurrence, but was cutting edge a year ago. I remember last spring parents emailing our admin team about their newfound respect for teachers after having their kids home and learning virtually. I think our staff learned just how hard it is to be a parent while having kids learning online too!

All this to say THANK YOU! I know there are events happening in buildings this week recognizing our teachers, and I hope you can take a minute to let them know as well.

This is a reminder that tomorrow is election day. The renewal of the income tax is the only item on the ballot for residents in our district. Polls open at 6:30 AM and close at 7:30 PM.

There are some changes in polling locations:

If you are in precinct 210.2 and vote at the Junior Fair Building - you will vote at the Pemberville American Legion.

If you are in precinct 470.2 and vote at the Haskins Village Hall - you will vote at the Troy Township Maintenance Building.

If you are in precinct 490.01 and vote at the Middleton Township Building -  you will vote at the Troy Township Maintenance Building.

If you are in precinct 671.2 and vote at Rossford Elementary School -  you will vote at the Troy Township Maintenance Building.

For all information, you can visit the Wood County Board of Elections website at:

Over the last month or so, we have provided you information on the income tax renewal. I wanted to share some final thoughts before tomorrow.

1.      This is a renewal and NOT A NEW TAX.

2.      This is our only operating levy. We have a Permanent Improvement Levy, the small bond issue for the HS addition, and the income tax. That is the only revenue we collect above the State Minimum.

3.      Last year, the Income Tax provided $2,352,926 in revenue, which was roughly 13% of our operating budget.

4.      In order to maintain the outstanding educational options we provide to students in the school district, we need this levy to be renewed.

We will once again be holding a free clinic for Sports Physical on June 22 from 8:00-4:00. We will have more on this later, but wanted to get the date on your calendar. The physicals will be completed at Eastwood HS for no cost.

The Wood County Health Department will be back on Sunday May 16th from 2:00-6:00 PM at Eastwood Elementary School to administer first or second shots on the vaccine. Again, no appointment is necessary. If you missed it the first time, you can get one then and speak with them about setting up a time to get a second shot. If you got your vaccine the first time, just remember to bring your card back so they can note the second dose.

Have a great week!
