Information from Our Nurse

Welcome to Health Services at Eastwood Local Schools! Our district nurse is dedicated to supporting your child’s physical health during the school day. You’ll find answers to many common questions about communicable illnesses, allergies, and medications below but if you have specific questions about your child's health at school, please contact the district nurse.

Reporting an Absence

If your child will be absent due to illness, parents or guardians must notify the school by 8:00 a.m. for grades 6-12 or 9:00 a.m. for PK-5. A note from a parent or guardian is required when the student returns to school.

Parents of high school students may choose to send an email to report an absence, needing to leave early or submit documentation: HSattendance@eastwoodschools.org

Gym & Recess Restrictions

  • Short-Term Illness/Injury (1-3 days): A note from a parent or guardian is required.
  • Long-Term Illness/Injury (4+ days): A doctor’s note detailing specific limitations and expected recovery time is required.
  • Medical Release: If a doctor excused the student, a second note from the same doctor is often required to rejoin, ensuring the student is fully cleared.

Medications at School

If your child requires medication during the school day, the appropriate forms may be downloaded from the Links section of this webpage or picked up from the school office. Forms must include the signatures of the parent/guardian and physician where indicated, and be submitted with all medications. A new form must be completed each year.

  • All medications must be provided in their original, properly labeled container and dated for the current school year.
  • Medications may not be sent to school with students and must be delivered to the school by a parent or guardian.
  • Medications need to be picked up by an adult at the end of the school year.
